When we're spending the majority of our day on skis, navigating switchbacks on the skin track or making our way to the next hut on our multi-day trip, we bring our Hayden Pant along for the ride. We made these high-performing lightweight ski pants with touring in mind, using a super-stretchy GORE-TEX INFINIUM construction. This recent addition to the GORE family uses a windproof membrane to keep us protected in any high-exposure spot we might find ourselves, and what the fabric gives up in terms of waterproof shelter it more than makes up for when it comes to breathable function. We're working hard for those turns, but the Hayden Pant is there to keep us light on our skis and dry from the inside out, no matter how hard we push ourselves in the backcountry.

Pretty Good Pants --- but not waterproof
I purchased these pants at the end of 20/21 season. At first they were VERY stiff, but after a few uses, they softened up. While they are a little long, they taper slightly at the cuffs and I find they fit pretty good. I love that they are stretchy, so it just makes them comfortable on the longest of days. Whether its snowshoeing, hiking or skiing. I ordered Medium, and could have gotten away with a Small, but I like the option of adding a thicker base layer if needed. The zipper on the side of the legs is a great feature for me as it makes it much easier to put my knee brace on without having to take my pants all the way down and shimmy them up and over. However, I am VERY disappointed with the GORE-TEX waterproofing. I only used them about 15 - 20x since I've purchased them and never washed them. Skiing the other day it was snowing a bit, nothing crazy and the lifts were wet. Normally with all my other pants, even non GORE-TEX, I'd have a damp booty after a very long day. After one hour of skiing, I noticed first my thighs were getting cold. Looking down at the pants you can clearly see that they were just sucking up the snow like a sponge. Shortly after, I was just damn cold. My butt was SOAKED. Back of my legs, SOAKED. Normally my base layers would have kept me comfy and warm, but being this soaking wet made it cold and miserable. Fortunately I had another pair of pants in the car to switch into. I know now that I can only wear these on DRY days and minimize my tree skiing or anything that will get even a moderate amount of moisture on them.

Ripped After 2 Uses :(

I was super disappointed with these. I bought them to use for my AIARE course (minimal touring), and they ripped in several places along my ski boots after two light days of use. They were stretchy and comfortable when I first put them on, but proved to be very non-functional out in the field. I typically get Patagonia ski pants and have never had this issue with the ripping along my boots. In terms of fit, I'm 5'2'' and 155lbs, and the M was quite long on me. The zipper also kept undoing while I was touring and the thighs were tight, but the waist was very loose. You won't be able to use the pockets for a beacon or phone if you have larger thighs. Definitely not designed for curvier ladies. I've been trying to get in contact with the warranty department for two months now about the quality issue and have had no success or resolution (left hanging after the first email). This was my first time trying to contact Backcountry's warranty department and has definitely fallen short compared to REI or Evo. Stick with your tried and true brands!

I use these for alpine touring, snowboarding, and snowshoeing. They fit perfectly for my height/weight. The fabric is stretchy, doesn't restrict movement, and doesn't ride up or fall down (the adjustable velcro tabs on the waist help with this). I've taken them out in both cold (-10F) and "warm" (30F) excursions and I've always been comfortable just by adjusting what I wear for a baselayer. The GoreTex is bomb, obviously. Only complaint is that the suspenders are way too short for my torso length so I can't use them. I ended up just taking off the suspenders and haven't had a problem.

Great except for the side zipper
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
These pants are great! I got them in green, the fit is perfect, and I like that it has enough room in the butt area and is slightly high waisted, which makes it very comfortable and not restricting my movement at all. The material is also functioning and soft enough to not make horrible sounds when moving. My only minor complaint is that the side zipper goes all the way to the waist, and is kinda stiff so when you bend your knees, the zipper line will turn to a weird direction and it has caught my skis twice. Maybe I’m being too picky, but something too consider when designing the next ski pants, maybe? Great job, backcountry, this is nevertheless one of the most comfy pants out there for women!
