Why We Like The Back Up Line

You tell your friends as they stare terrifyingly at their broken rope, torn in half by a falling rock the size of your head. They stare in confusion as your pull Beal's Back Up Line out of your backpack, looking like you magically pulled a bunny out of your hat. The thing is, this compact, thin cord packs away small, and when you're abseiling something sketchy or working a rescue, a lightweight back up will generally come in handy. This static line features aramid fibers for increased abrasion resistance and a rougher texture for easier handling and better control.

light as a feather

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

It's almost disturbing how thin and light this rope is. I use it for rigging static anchors above a cliff edge before transferring onto a dynamic rope on the cliff face. with 2 strands, it's surprisingly stable in a standard ATC style device (I use a giga jul) with 1 carabiner, tho 2 carabiners are recommended to increase friction. Works well as a tag line also, although you'll need to use a double flat overhand or a barrel knot to tie into your climbing rope due to the difference in width (and probably a reepshnur to safely block).
