Why We Like The Black Diamond 9.9 Climbing Rope
The 9.9 Climbing Rope is Black Diamond's thickest and most durable climbing rope, and it's still versatile for virtually any style of climb. This rope balances the burliness required for big-wall projects with the beginner-friendly handling that new climbers need at the gym. Its Endurance rope boasts hardcore durability against rocky edges, and there's a half mark for easily identifying the rope's center for rigging rappels.

I bought a 70m and have used it for a week outdoors. Uncoiled nicely, nice color, nice weight. Happy with everything so far, and the price was great. Love Backcountry - they've been grea to deal with on every order and whenever I've had to call customer service.

Fairly impressed with this rope! It feels surprisingly small for a 9.9 rope.

Good value, ok rope
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I've had one of these about two years, though it's gotten a bit less use than normal over 2020. It's taken some minor damage from coarse rock (JTree) and a few whips, but looks about how you'd expect an average rope to look after such mileage (that is, a few fuzzy spots and squishy spots, but not yet in need of a trim). I wouldn't call it particularly durable; both my Mammut and Sterling ropes have held up notably better (but were about 50% more expensive). However, for what it is, the price is right; it's decently made; and it handles and knots quite nicely. Based on my experience I would buy it again for a beater rope.
