Why We Like The Distance Tent with Adapter

The Black Diamond Distance Tent with Adapter weighs less than two pounds and packs smaller than a water bottles so ultralight backpackers and minimalist thru-hikers can take it anywhere. This 2-person, 3-season tent's nonfreestanding design includes a DAC pole that adapts to accommodate Black Diamond's trekking poles for a simple setup, even in windy conditions. While packable and ultralight, the high-tenacity fabric boasts improved strength that doesn't stretch when it gets wet. There are vents at the peak and foot to cross-ventilate and amplify airflow. Black Diamond reinforced the guylines with Dyneema to ensure long-lasting durability.

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

As with most single walled tents, condensation can be a problem. I have owned several over the years and understand this. I have trekked with this tent through the Sierra Nevada's in Eastern CA, Big Sur, and the Channel Islands. It can really get wet inside this tent. Wind was blowing pretty hard one night on Santa Cruz Island and I woke several times throughout the night fully believing that it was raining inside my tent. The wind was whipping the walls of the tent which would shake off the insane amounts of condensation that was forming on the walls and splash water all over my face and gear. Not a restful night to be sure. Furthermore, despite guying out the lines and trekking poles tightly, the walls of the tent, particularly the head area, do not sit taut and settled slack. This means that a decent breeze or strong wind is whipping the wall of the tent above your head and smacking you awake. I am 6 ft tall and found this to be a bigger problem than the condensation. The slope of the wall above your head would not be a problem if there was structural support to keep the tent walls from billowing around so easily and hitting you, however that would compromise the weight savings of the tent. All in all, I am not too mad because I purchased the tent on a deep sale from this site around a year ago. 2 stars were given because it does set up quickly / easily. It stores and tears down very quickly for hassle-free morning starts (minus having to dry out your gear) and is very light for a single wall tent. All in all, however, one could spend more money and find a lighter tent that breathes better. One could also sacrifice some weight savings to have a proper single wall that stands up to wind and breathes much better for a more restful night.
