FirstLight Tent
Completely redesigned, the FirstLight Tent is Black Diamond's optimal shelter for serious mountain missions. It's still the lightest, most packable tent that Black Diamond builds, and it's been updated to maximize airflow while still minimizing weight. Black Diamond's new (patent pending) Flow Manifold technology allows interior heat convection and exterior airflow to draw moisture vapor out of the tent, so you don't have a crisp layer of frost on your sleeping bag every morning. Flow Manifold also allows for a central, ceiling exit for anchoring in on steep mountaineering expeditions. Made with Dyneema, the guylines are significantly stronger than the previous season's FirstLight, and the internal pole grips are reinforced for better longevity.

Can be perfect, but beware limitations
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I've been using an earlier version of this tent for backpacking (no, rarely below-freezing mountaineering) in Rockies for ~12 yrs now. Most of the time it's perfect: lightweight, free-standing, easy & quick to set up (love the simple internal cross-pole design), roomy for my 2 dogs and me, excellent wind & bug protection. In a damp, windless environment, condensation will build up but is tolerable. It will mostly shed a light rain but may leak a little along seams--still adequate. But I did have one terrible experience in a high-altitude severe summer t-storm when it rained like a car wash for several hours: major leakage misting through the fabric. Bailed out of the trip next day because down gear was rather wet, and stormy, chilly conditions were continuing--there would be more rain & no sun to dry gear before next chilly night. So, if I expect very wet conditions (or I'm unsure), I opt for my ultralight but cramped, non-freestanding cuben fiber tarp tent. Otherwise, I love this tent which is the best combo of weight to space to shelter for me most of the time in the Rockies.
