Giga Jul Belay Device

At the flip of a switch, the Edelrid Giga Jul Belay Device changes from a standard tube device to an assisted braking device for more versatility whether you're climbing multi-pitch or sport. As an assisted braking device, the Giga Jul grants greater friction that bites down on the climbing rope when lead climbers fall. As a standard tube, the Giga Jul can rappel with single and twin ropes smoother, and you can clip the Giga Jul to anchors for a more-secure top rope belay on multi-pitches. There's a small eyelet on the opposite side of the anchor loop to give slack when you're belaying from the anchors.

Versatile and Efficient

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This is a really neat device, which I have found particularly useful for multipitch. I often want to bring both a grigri, for the safety when belaying either on lead or guide, and a classic tube in case i need to rap, or if i need to make an autoblocking system that can take two strands. If the route is bolted, this isn't a huge issue — but if you also have a double rack and a backpack, it gets a little onerous to have all that weight on your harness. This device takes the place of both! I find the bite reasonably tight, and while I'm still getting used to it, paying out slack is fairly easy too. Solid, versatile device, for a reasonable price!
