Half the fun of getting a new helmet as a kid is picking one out that looks really, really cool. Giro makes sure little ones will be able to find a helmet they get excited about wearing with the Scamp MIPS Helmet, including graphics worthy of your young adventurer with features that will keep them safe as they discover the world on two wheels.
To offer protection against impact, Giro uses the same In-Mold polycarbonate shell and EPS foam liner in the Scamp as in its adult helmets, and then adds new MIPS technology. MIPS, or Multi-Directional Impact Protection System, refers to a Swedish technology added to the helmet in the form of a thin inner layer that rotates upon impact to absorb the brain-damaging rotational energy created in certain crashes.
Giro adapts its Roc Loc fit adjustment system to the Scamp MIPS to make fit adjustments quick and easy. We can all remember tearfully getting our chins pinched at least once while rushing to buckle our helmet so we could go ride our bikes; thankfully, Giro developed a pinch-guard buckle to prevent it from happening to today's youth. A built-in visor and ponytail compatibility provide finishing touches to the Scamp's design, promising comfort for all little riders.

Backcountry size chart is incorrect
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
Unfortunately I learned the hard way that the size chart linked by Backcountry is incorrect. The chart lists five sizes for bike helmets: - S / M - M / L - TODDLER - UNIVERSAL CHILD - UNIVERSAL YOUTH As you can see there is on XS or S which are the two sizes you can purchase this helmet in. The size chart in the link does have an XS and S in the snow helmets. So basically you are left guessing what size these helmets are. I assumed it would be the same as the XS (48.5 - 52cm) and S (52 - 55.5cm) snow helmets. Unfortunately after purchasing the XS for my daughter (who has a 50mm head circumference) the item arrived and the box listed it as 45 - 49 cm. So now I have to return it which means: - waiting longer to get the right sized helmet - losing $6 since I have to pay for return shipping (per the returns policy) despite the fact this is really the responsibility of Backcountry since they do not have the correct size chart linked to this item. So to save any other parents from having to deal with this annoyance, here is the correct sizing of the Giro Scamp per the manufacturer: XS 45 - 49 cm S 49 - 53 cm
