Blistered and bruised

I hate to leave such a bad review but must. I hiked my first 14er in these boots totaling 13 miles that day. By mile 2 both heals developed quarter size blisters on the backs of my heals. I was able to get Band-Aids to cover them half way to the top. The high top tongue pressed on my ankles so much that the pain was pretty heavy. I chose to ignore it and was very bruised in the following days. Maybe the high top boot was the wrong choice in this type of hike or for my body. Positive things to note: they are great for traction up and down the mountain I did not slip at all and they have a good arch I liked.

Less comfortable than the II model

I have the Targhee II and like them a lot, so when it came time to get a new boot, I went for the Targhee III. Unfortunately the III's are much less comfortable (very hard, thin sole) and give me blisters on my toes and heels. Since I'm past the return date :( I guess I'll just use them for short/flat hikes. But for anything steep, these are definitely not a good option. Very disappointed... Would have given fewer stars but the boot seems to be made well, so three stars for quality construction.

I LOVE these shoes!!

I am an avid hiker and ive been looking for a great pair of all around, all weather hiking boots to last me forever- these are them! They are as comfy as walking on a cloud, and barely required any breaking in (just the tongue and ankle part really). They fit perfectly while still being roomy and have a nice amount of arch support without being too much. They are SUPER cute and look good with any outfit. The tread is super grippy, and these shoes repel water and keep my feet dry and warm but also ventilated. They are also super lightweight despite their chunkiness. Best part - a 1500 lb horse stepped on my foot while I was wearing these shoes, and they saved my toe from being broken. Two weeks later, these shoes are roomy enough to wear over my injured toe and I am already back to hiking. The shoe that got stepped on is just barely scuffed a little. These things are so sturdy. Would HIGHLY recommend these to any hiker and I will probably buy them again once my new pair is worn out (many years from now).

Love these boots!! I hike in them a lot and they definitely hold up to any condition. They were also super comfy straight of the box. I do get some pain on the ball of my foot under my big toe a lot.

Defect in tongue design

I've had a previous version of this boot for 3 years, and have used it for hiking and everyday use. They have been great. This new pair failed the first time I wore them. I had pain from the laces on each side of each foot. Upon inspection, the tongue was falling apart on the edges allowing my laces to press against the top of my feet rather than against the padding. Sadly, I can't return these useless boots through backcountry.com due to their return policy.

Holds up on the trails!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I bought the mid-tops this year for my long hiking or backpacking days. I've had the low top version for a year now and they fit like a dream from the moment I put them on. I didn't even need to upgrade the inserts. I only gave 4 stars mainly because with the mid-tops, it took a few hikes to really work the boots in, unlike the low-tops. I did put the medium arch insoles in the shoe to replace what was there. I suffer from horrible plantar fasciitis and wanted the extra support. Overall I'm loving both the low-top and mid-top versions. I also love that the boysenberry color comes in a brown base color since that's what color the shoes become no matter what you do.

Great hiking shoe

Familiarity:

Very impressed with these, took them out for a moderate steep hike that was about four hours and felt no pain or discomfort, nor any blisters on first wear. Love that the toe area is roomy especially since my feet are wide.
