Jackal is a miss, bring back the Akasha!

This shoe was close to being good. Good sole, traction, feels like a serious trail running shoe for rough terrain, however a couple issues: 1. The achilles cup design - it comes to a point and somewhat points into into your heel instead of being a kind of u shape that cups your achilles, very odd. I spent time working this part of the shoes before wearing so that it would flex more and this helped however it wasn't very comfortable especially when the fore foot is extended forwards. 2. Uppers - The deal breaker for me was that they were extremely unsecure when going downhill. No matter how tight i tied the laces my feet would still slide forward even though the fit of the shoe was right. The laces are thin like most La Sportivas however combine with an unusually thin tounge you will feel the laces cut into the top of your foot if you tie them tight enough to secure your feet. I just couldn't get them secure enough that i had to run painfully slow/cautiously downhill as my feel would frequently slide forward. Like many others i've also resorted to buying overpriced Akasha's from Europe on ebay since that's the only place you can get them. La Sportiva just needs to start selling Akasha's in the US again, it's a perfect trail shoe!

Great lightweight rugged trail running shoe. Fits like a glove, although it runs small; order at least a half size up, maybe a full. I love them so much I bought a second pair. So I'm usually a solid 10.5 and I bought them in size 44 and then another pair in 44.5 so I can wear a thicker sock. Awesome shoe plus they look fast!

I've run in Bushido and Bushido II, both great. I've run in the Akasha, best running shoe ever. Got the Jackal's thinking all the reviews citing the "Achilles bump" were probably wrong. They weren't. Walking around the house the heel areas felt...weird. Twenty minutes into my run, rubbing got bad. Thirty minutes in I had to take a short cut back to the car. Blister through the skin in forty-five minutes. Other than the heel design, the shoe is fine. These are so uncomfortable that I can't even turn them into work shoes. I just threw them in the garbage. Now I'm on ebay trying to find a pair of Akashas for sale. So bummed. (I train about 15 hrs/week. 60% running/40% riding. My long trail runs are around 5hrs)

Awesome long distance trail shoe

I bought my Jackal for longer distance runs on technical trails and when I want something wider and cushioned for banging out training miles. I upsized a 1/2 size from my standard EU size (43.5 from a 43.0) and that worked well for me. The Jackal is noticeably wider and higher volume in the forefoot and midfoot than my Bushido but still snug in the heel with noticeably more cushioning and protection under foot. Longer runs on rocky trails in Colorado are great for this shoe. I recommend the Jackal to anyone who wants La Sportiva traction and performance in a wider fit for long days on the dirt. Perfect for ultra distance races (next year).
