Why We Like The TX3 Approach Shoe

Guide books have a way of making the approach sound pretty straightforward, but after multiple creek crossings, backtracking, and sketchy scrambles, we're glad to have prepared for the unexpected by lacing up the La Sportiva TX3 Approach Shoes.

With a quick-drying polyester mesh upper, protective rubber rand, and super-sticky Vibram rubber sole, the TX3 is a veritable all-terrain crusher with the chops to tackle just about any rocky surface you encounter. La Sportiva pulled out all the stops with this one by adding a torsionally rigid STB system, MEMlex underfoot cushioning, and non-slip mesh lining for a cool, comfortable, and secure fit for the approach.

Awesome approach shoe

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
10 M
Height:
5' 10"

This shoe has amazing support, a nice roomy toe box and excellent sticky rubber! Great for scrambling easy mountain terrain, much better than my running shoes! I bought my normal size and they are perfect. I really like the fact that they are not too narrow in the toe box, that makes for a much more comfortable shoe especially on long mountain days! I highly recommend this shoe!

A must have for hiking on rocks

Size Bought:
46/12.5

I'm a novice climber (mostly gym, still trying to climb outside more), so I didn't necessarily need approach shoes. But I just finished my 8 day Utah national parks trip and am so glad I talked myself into getting these. We walked more than 10 miles everyday on rock faces and boulders; these shoes helped me hike confidently and were very comfortable. We also ended up hiking in some slot canyons, which I wouldn't have wanted to do without these grippy shoes. I could basically walk vertically down rocks with so much grip. The sizing of these shoes might slightly be off. I got a 40.5 and wear a size 9 in my altra road running shoes, but an 8 in chacos. I probably could have ordered a 40.0 and been happy, but I didn't have many issues with a 40.5. There were only a few times when I thought maybe a half size smaller might have helped. Overall really love these shoes!

Ordered this off the bat after doing research ! Have not tried them but will def update this review ! Just wanted to leave the size here because it took me over 2 weeks to convince myself to get em. I was going to go off the reviews as people stated it was bigger than advertised. Let me tell you ... it’s true to size at least for me . So if you are looking for a size 8 women -39.5. I usually wear a 6.5 in men’s if that helps! I had told my bff about this shoes and she bought them before me! And I seen how great they are! They help and are comfy considering we hike over 6 miles. They stick very well to rocks and the colors are just so vibrant!! Must have shoe

Runs small

These reviews said they run large and to order down a size. I completely disagree and also so does Zappos - their site says size up! Super disappointing because I love the shoes and i need hiking boots but now it is 4th of July weekend and I can’t get a pair in time so I’m stuck with nike running shoes with zero traction.
