Fantastic single line belay device

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:
48

Simple to use, slack feeds out easily, brake bites hard, lowering is easy. If you're not using multiple ropes and don't want to spend more than twice the money on a GriGri then this thing will do everything you need it to do. As a bonus it's very solid and I have no idea how you could break or wear this thing out. If you get it on sale, no brainer.

try it, you'll love it

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

The smart gives the Security of an assisted breaking device without having to learn any new belaying techniques. Waaaayyyy less short roping for the leader than with a Gri Gri. So simple, can't really mess it up. Smooth lowers are a bonus!

Perfect Belay Device

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Love this belay device. It's a simple, bomber piece of equipment and extremely reliable. This action works essentially the same as the black diamond ATC pilot device but I like it a bit more personally as the handle is longer, not taller, which fits more ergonomically in my hand. Lowers have been smooth and the assisted braking is always a boon for newcomers! Extremely easy feed for lead belaying as well. This is my second Mammut Smart after losing the original and I love it even more.
