Great Tent for two plus gear
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
- Height:
- 6' 4"
- Weight:
- 235
The previous review by Drew M. is spot on! I have enjoyed using this tent on a few outings. There is great airflow with the doors open and condensation has not been an issue at all. I've only used the tent this fall in the Adirondacks and VT, so far. I also have the Marmot Force UL 2P tent which I take more on backpacking trips because it it lighter and takes up less space in my pack. The Tungsten UL 3P is light enough to take backpacking as well. There is much more room inside this tent, than the 2 person Force. I'm 6'-3" tall and weigh about 215lbs. I really like the Force and feel that it is slightly more durable and rugged for backcountry camping, however, wanted something with a little more space for two plus gear. Care should be taken because of the lightweight materials, especially with the door zippers attached to the screen material. The footprint should always be used. I don't believe rain will be an issue, however I've only experienced some light rain while in the tent. I believe this is a great tent and is reasonably priced, especially during sales. I would highly recommend it as a summer tent since the inner layer is all screen. It is free standing and very easy to set up. The color is subtle in the woods and blends in well when the leaves are still green. There are a few reflectors that help find it at night. Overall, I would recommend this tent.

Great UL tent option from Marmot
This review is for the NEW Tungsten UL tent from Marmot. So far I have been impressed with this tent. There is some conflicting weight information on various sites so I wanted to address that first. According to Marmot's website and printed on the tent packaging, the tent weighs in at 3lbs 12oz. I found this to be accurate once you take out the guy lines, stakes, pole splint, and patches. However, since I would never pack this tent without those things the true weight of the tent ends up being 4lbs 2.8 oz once I removed all the tags which is closer to the trail weight listed on Backcountry. Add in the 3 man Tungsten UL footprint available from Marmot which itself weighs 11.2oz and the total packed weight of this tent system comes to 4lb 14oz. While this is not the lightest 3 man tent on the market, this weight is still very impressive and I think the tent packs in some features that make it hard to beat as a more spacious and affordable UL backpacking option. As with any UL tent, the material is very thin and I am not sure about durability down the road. The tent floor being this thin really necessitates the use of the footprint, although I would recommend a footprint with any tent. That being said, I had it set up over the weekend through some very high wind and the tent came through like a champ. The fly has plenty of guy points to hold it down firmly. The included stakes leave something to be desired so I will likely be replacing those but they did their job fine in soft wet soil. I really like the headlamp light diffuser sewn into the tent wall and the design of the fly, including the ability to open the top a little to allow more airflow. There was more than enough space for two adults and gear to be very comfortable, and I could even set my Helinox chair up inside with a few inches of headspace(I am 5'11" for reference). The only thing I have yet to test is how this will fair in a rain storm but so far I am very pleased with the features this tent offers.
