Why We Like The Absolute Zero Down Parka

The Absolute Zero is Mountain Hardwear's most advanced climbing parka for big mountain guides and alpinists ascending the highest peaks in harsh conditions. We like that its 800-fill down insulation is some of the loftiest, most compressible insulation available, and Mountain Hardwear worked with Allied Down to ensure responsible sourcing and processing. The Pertex Diamond Fuse shell excels at abrasion and water resistance, and welded baffles bolster the parka's overall waterproofing.

This parka exceeded my expectations. Seems very well made with numerous pockets. I really like the hood function with multiple adjustments. It is heavy and bulky but that is the exact reason you should be buying this jacket. I am very thankful for all the reviews discussing the sizing as it runs very big. IMO you should size down 1 full size with this jacket. I normally wear a Large, 5'9" and 185 and the medium fit me perfect with room for a couple layers. If you are going to use this jacket for high altitude mountaineering (I am not) you may want to stay with your original size for multiple layering. Excellent zipper and velcro functions.

Great parka

I haven’t worn this yet since it’s been too warm. But it feels bulletproof. It’s a bit on the heavy and bulky side and definitely runs large so unless you are mountaineering, size down. The Velcro flaps to protect your face are nice and fold out of the way when not needed. One of the best expedition parkas. But there’s others from other manufacturers that are better. At $400 (which is what I paid last winter), it’s a good buy. Edit: I reviewed an earlier version of this coat elsewhere on this website today. This is a great parka for the $400+ price. It’s monstrous in size so size down. One of the best hoods on any coat, extra large pockets, sheds drizzle and probably rain no problem. The pull out hand covers I didn’t even notice until I saw a picture. There’s better expedition coats but not for the price. Top notch. Technical and bulky in appearance.
