Why We Like The PCT 70L Backpack

We load up our essentials into the PCT 70L Backpack for a summer on the trail. The lightweight frame transfers our heavy load to our hips where the pivoting hip belt keeps it centered as we trek over rolling, technical terrain. We feel cool mountain breezes flow through the body-hugging back panel, making our sweltering afternoon miles more bearable. When we happen upon a side trail, we dump the weight and take the detachable daypack out for a little road-less-traveled exploration.

Your backpacking pack awaits...

At 5'8" the S/M fits great. The hip belt is designed to move with you, which may throw you off slightly at first, but you'll learn to love and appreciate this thoughtful design element. The zippered storage on the hip belt is perfect for snacks, small tools, etc - anything you need to access quickly. The voluminous side pouches are great for your Helinox chair, Nalgene bottles, sleeping bag, insulated jacket, and so much more. The mesh backing breathes super well and keeps the pack directly off your back, keeping you cool on those warmer days. The easy-access front pouch is great for quick access to the interior of your pack. The pole carries are easy to use and hold your trekking poles well, even if you start moving the pack around on quick descents. The removable top lid is great when needed and the interior pack is perfect for those quick one-off hikes/summits, plus holds the hydration pack well. Seriously, Mountain Hardwear thought of so many little details that separate this pack from the rest of its competition.

Comfort and organization!

The PCT 70L pack checks all of the boxes for a multi-day backpacking pack. The mesh back and padded/adjustable shoulder straps make this thing super comfortable on the shoulders and hips. Those features partnered with multiple synch straps to make sure your packs weight and shape is evenly distributed get this pack a 5 star rating for all around comfort from me. The best part of this pack, in my opinion, is the external storage and summit pack. The side water bottle pockets are MASSIVE. I was able to fit my helinox camp chair in one of the side pockets and kept my nalgene + a flask in the other. It also has plenty of smaller zippered pockets on the outside to stash smaller items you may need on the trail. Most of our backpacking trips include day hikes from camp, so having the smaller summit pack to throw a map, some snacks, and water into is great!
