The lightweight, kid-sized Heron Jr Kayak from Old Town will have the munchkins racing circles around your big, ponderous container ship of a kayak. It tracks well for easy paddling and maneuvers as quickly as a friendly mongoose to minimize the time they spend stuck in the reeds. The boat's fitted with an internal foam billet so they can't send it to the bottom of the lake when they tip it over. Perfect fit for my nine year old

This kayak is exactly what I was hoping it would be for my kiddo. It's light-weight and a piece of cake to lift and load onto the car, and my son has no problem carrying it to the water by himself. It's nice and narrow for his kid arms to paddle but stable enough that he hasn't capsized. The only thing I'd add is foot pegs, but as a beginner, he doesn't know what he's missing.
