Why We Like The Lost Coast Fingerless Mittens
Chilly campground cooking is better with the Lost Coast Fingerless Mittens. The mitt flap quickly secures to the hidden magnet attachment readying our digits for delicate breakfast burrito rolling. Once their task is done, our fingers retreat back inside the cozy fleece-lined pocket before shaking our mates awake.

I had high hopes, but I ended up returning this item. I bought these with the intent of using for winter disc golf and hiking/dog walks. -I ordered a size medium. While my hand fit into the glove comfortably enough, it remained too tight for dexterity around the fingers. A Large would have been to bulky for sure, but would have allowed for a liner. -A convertible glove that doesn't convert for the thumb ends up with with 4 useful digits and one super slippery one. If the thumb must remain intact (which I understand; no glove maker has been able to nail the thumb flip), then the "grip" material needs to extend to the end of the thumb. Seems like a good way to drop a phone or lose grip on the steering wheel. None of the photos here show the palm, which is a considerable oversight by the backcountry.com folks. -Personally, I would take the reduced warmth on the thumb for a flip there. I didn't pay enough attention to the product before ordering, as I would have declined if I had seen that the thumb doesn't flip. That said, if the grip was extended to the end of the thumb, I might have kept them for the hiking/dog walk purposes. -I wanted a fingerless with a good grip on the palm. The leatherish material on the palm is good quality, but the "grip" material should also cover the top portion of the flip for the fingers as well (which might save the user from having to convert the mitten in the first place for some applications). Build quality seemed excellent, as is typical for OR, but $55 is just too steep for a glove that doesn't quite get it right for me. The hunt continues for the perfect fingerless glove.

Gloves are great. Keep you nice and warm in snowy conditions, nice quality, leather is a nice touch for durability, and overall is the best mitten I’ve put on. Cons: too much extra room between the palm and wrist and magnet needs to be stronger for snow ball fights(unmates with a proper toss lol) Washed and dried the gloves and they fit better around the palm to wrist area but still has extra fabric. If you’re closer to a size smaller based off the sizing chart, go down a size. Still a great glove and choice

Great concept, but mitten part too small

I love convertible gloves, and this one is really well made. But the mitten part is too tight for the glove part - you can see that just by looking at it. Also, it has a magnetic latch, which is very convenient, but that means you can't use a compass with them on. Not a problem for using them around town, but a non-starter for backcountry use.
