This is the second pair of Salomon shoes I've owned. I bought these because of the comfort and fit I got from the X Ultra GTX shoes. I wanted to get a brighter color so I went with the blue. These do fit longer than the X Ultra GTX and maybe because of the purpose these shoes are built for. These are intended to be a trail runner; which I am not. I'm a hiker and the X Ultra were great at that. These are as well with the aggressive tread; they just fit a little long, but not wider. The insole is still great as can be and they fit my arch shape very well. I can wear these all day long with no lower back pain or strain. If you are looking to purchase a great GTX shoe this is it; I may recommend going a half size smaller if you have owned previous Salomon's. The width runs true it's just the length that is a bit long. I could have gone a half size smaller now after having them for a few months. I opted to just keep them as they aren't so bad it warranted a return/exchange. Besides the sizing or maybe due to the sizing; I'm starting to get some separation of the rubber sides and the toe fabric. The separation is happening where the shoe flex point is; so it may be due to the fact I have a half size too large. I will be wearing them even more in wet/muddy conditions to see if this fabric separation leads to the GTX water resistanceness becomes affected.

These shoes are awesome! They are great for playing softball. Gives you a lot of traction so your not sliding on the dirt when you are walking or running. They are very comfortable shoes. Really great quality! I highly recommend!

Sent wrong shoes
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
I would have like to write a review on these shoes but Back Country decided instead of a size 10.5, mens, Salomon trail runner that I ordered, what I really wanted was a size 9, womens, Nike running shoe. Needless to say, the fit was very poor, the style atrocious, very not waterproof, and very un trail worthy. Neutral 3 stars while I search for another shoe as by the time I got the wrong shoe, Back Country sold out of the shoe size I originally ordered. Top notch guys, top notch!

True to size length wise, but very narrow at the arch section of the shoe. Placed a return and received a prompt refund.

I trail run quite a bit and enjoy doing hill sprints along the trails. The shoes are nice and the tread very effective in loose forest coverings with roots and rocks. I wear an 8.5-9, depending on the brand and went with 8.5 which seemed true to size length wise, but i would normally take a wide if available too. I read that the new Speedcross had a larger toebox, but maybe that doesn't apply to the GTX version? Anyway, very painful across the widest part of my foot when running. I wanted to like them, but the pain just increased as I used them and made running more an effort of trying to manage my footfall to mitigate the pain rather than focusing on where or how well I was running. I've been wearing 0 drop shoes for years and tried these after my NB Minimus model was discontinued and thought some rugged and waterproof trail shoes would be a nice change for rocky terrain. After only 2 short runs (like .5 mile), I ended up with extreme knee pain, but that may just be attributed to personal body mechanics. Anyway, unfortunately returned.

Great shoes, volume increased

Bought these because I had a pair of the Speedcross 4's that fit great and served me quite well but got tattered, as trail running shoes will. I wrongly assumed the 5's would fit the same as the 4's (they sure looked the same in the pictures!), however, the 5's are bigger than the 4's. The volume has increased. I have difficulty finding lower volume shoes with the length I need and the 4's in a 10 1/2 were perfect. Sorry that Salomon had to make a change, I thought I had found a go-to style. Otherwise these shoes are great, real comfortable trail grippers.

nice and dry

I like trail running shoes that can keep my feet dry. After a nightmare of a time on the Colorado trail last year, I knew I needed better water proofing on my feet for snowy post hoping this year. I have tested these out on some springtime mud to snowboarding excursions, and they keep my feet pretty dry on the afternoon slush slog downhill after the rideable snow runs out!
