Wonderful hiking shoe, depending on use.
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
I tested this shoe during a few hiking days in Spain. If you like Salomons like I do, because construction and foot shape this one is a good shoe. I have a wide foot and the toebox is perfect for me, even a little ample which will depend on the sock I use. Depending on what you will use it, for easy unexposed scrambles and long hikes the shoe is perfect and very comfortable, has a good grip in the rocky terrain and is very light. I ran a little with it but the raised heel provides a bit to much toe-heel drop to be comfy. The sole rubber is soft which might not endure many years of hiking and it seems bulky to me creating a sense off instability at times when the terrain demands more precision. The ADVIC mechanism looks to me a little unnecessary feature because, despite assisting in closing the mid to heel section of the foot, this should do well with a good lacing system like the shoe has already. The toes have a good hard protection in case of kicking rocks accidentally. I would not use this shoe for risky or exposed scrambles though. But overall is a wonderful shoe for long hikes, thru-hikes and long walking activities due to its comfort, shape and weight. Enjoy it and go get some good hikes!

This Shoe was comfortable, but only for a bit. I took the shoe to a light trail. Walked about 20 minutes, then I had to turn back. At first I thought there would have no break in time needed since they felt great for a while. As I was walking in the trail the shoes felt responsive, they stayed tight (in laces) for a bit. I had to readjust them once or twice the time I had them. After a few min, my arch areas were starting to hurt. I was hoping what I read in the review of other websites were not true. Turns out it is. These will give you blisters in the sides where the lace supporting strap is (both sides of feet). I am talking about the strap where the ADV/C plastic is embedded in. I had comfortable socks too. I have walked this trail before with other shoes and had no issues like this. Also the back part of the ankle where the tendon is, it will be a hot spot too due to the tall back portion of the shoe. Possibly could avoid that with taller socks. The other issue, you can't avoid though, unless you have very (emphasizing very) narrow feet...possibly. I don't have wide feet either, usually a B to a D at most with width. It felt like the shoe was starting to dig into the sides. The moment I realized it was not good to walk in them anymore, it was too late as the damage was done. The only reason I got these is because of the Salomon X Ultra 3 and how they seemed like amazing shoes. I figured these are possibly an upgrade to them. They look adorable compared to their predecessors. I did love the color. I got the Lunar Rock/Black/Cherry Tomato ones. I was very disappointed to find out they have this major factory defect (or design defect at most). Unfortunately, they are not good shoes. They also run hot. My feet usually don't sweat as much. These (possibly from getting the blisters) made my feet sweat. They are light shoes as well. Oh, going uphill felt good, downhill is where it made things worse, but I am not too sure as I already had the blisters going. I do not recommend these. If anything, go with the Salomon X Ultra 3 instead. I am getting Danner's Mountain 600 though after long considerations. I will leave a review on those later. Ps: (once I find my review pictures for the X Ultra 4, I will update this as well, where it shows the ouchies) I hope this helps with your decision!!!

Made for mountain trails!!

I was a huge fan of the X-Ultra 3 hiking boots so I was very excited to get these. Straight out of the box onto the Franconia Ridge loop hike in New Hampshire. Almost 9 miles of the granite states infamous hiking trails and I couldn't have been happier. Great traction. Went on Dirt, wet rocks, snow, and rocky ledge with zero issues. The fit was perfect. Though never a real issue, Salomon has upped their game as far as shoe fit goes. Snug enough to keep you stable but not so tight you run into issues with blisters. These are going to become my summer, go to hiking shoe for sure!

Like running on air. Super grippy air.

These are by far the best running shoes I've ever owned. They're super light, incredibly comfortable, and I took them for a run right out the box - no break-in necessary. I wear them trail running and hiking, the grippy lugs make them great for rocky terrain. I haven't tested the waterproofing yet, but I plan to hit the first wet trail I find.
