Nearly useless on ice.

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

AeroTrac sole grips to icy and snowy surfaces, huh? While I've had these for ~3yrs now and have liked them on packed snow and for snowshoeing, I used them for the first time on an icy hike last week. While I'm generally the sure-footed one, my wife had me beat hands-down with her Sorel Badger boots. While she was having no issues, I was sliding all over the place. I was fortunate not to fall on my keister or twist a knee. The uniform round nubs on the bottom make for poor traction. I'll be buying traction cleats/spikes for these.

I don’t get the hate

In researching snow boots, I’ve seen a lot of rEaL OuTdOoRsMeN who scoff at modern Sorel Caribous because they’re supposedly not as good as they used to be, or whatever their gripe is. I can’t speak to how they compare to Sorels from 30 years ago, but after wearing a modern pair in 10”+ snow for several hours, I have no idea what the hate is about. If anything, my feet were almost *uncomfortably* warm in 15ish*F weather with thick boot socks on. The boots feel quite rugged, and I hope/expect to have them for years to come! I bought true-to-size based on the professional reviews saying to do so (to accommodate thick socks), but if these ever die, I’d probably go a half size down for my next pair.

Great Warm Winter Boot

I don’t typically write a lot of reviews but was so impressed with this boot that I had to share my experience with them. Great boot for the cold and snow. I’ve used it in the snow and went snow shoeing with this boot and they worked great. Very comfortable. I wore them for a few hours in the snow with temps down to -1 degrees F and they kept my feet really warm and dry. I like the height of the boot which is tall enough to keep the snow out. Good traction in the snow and ice. Great quality and looks good. Regarding sizing, they do run large. I typically wear a size 8 in athletic/running shoes and 7.5 in dress shoes so ordered a size 8. They do feel a bit big and long but with some slightly thicker winter socks they fit fine (I like a little looser fit). There was also plenty of room to tuck my pants into them. I could have gone with a 7.5 and would have fit fine but they weren’t in stock. Highly recommended.

This is my second season using these boots as a liftie and I'm looking for replacements since they are so awful. The boots claim to keep your feet warm down to -30c temps but its currently 10F where I'm at and my toes are frozen the whole day. Pulling the liners out at the end of the day and drying them in front of a heater slightly helps, but not by much. I'm looking into insulating them with foil to keep some of the cold out, since I think they freeze because of their larger rubber sole. Overall I'm really annoyed that I spent so much on these junk boots, guys that I work with wear hiking boots and have warmer feet.

Function over fashion

These boots are classic for a reason. Just retired my 30yr old pair for a new pair. Tread pattern has been upgraded and so far seem just as good if not a little better in the slick. These boots still run one full size large, so order down. See a lot a reviews here about the boots being “clunky” and “heavy”, so let me clarify. These amazing boots are for stomping around in the snow and cold for light work and play, with the intent of keeping your feet warm and dry. And, this is exactly what they do, better than any of the rest. If you live in a part of the country that is snowless and/or where winters don’t get into the teens or lower, then you may not get much use out of these. Also, if you are looking for something fashionable to wear down to the local coffee shop, then these are probably not going to be a good choice for you either. If however you spend time outside in winter weather, need a boot that you can slip on to walk the dog, shovel the car, shovel the walk, fetch some wood, take a short snowshoe hike, do chores around the (outside) of the house, help your neighbor repair his fence and change out of your ski boots into something super comfortable, then look no further. P.S. I actually do wear mine down to the local coffee shop, because I would rather look less fashionable and have warm feet when enjoying a good cup of coffee and conversation with my friends and neighbors.
