We made the Stoic Groundwork Double Sleeping Bag because it's challenging enough to find a sleeping bag for two, and it's even harder to find a bag that feels comfy in colder and warmer temperatures. This double-wide sleeping bag offers soft warmth even when the forecast calls for gray skies and morning fog. You're welcome to cozy up with your partner, or unzip the bag into separate parts in case someone heads out on a solo mission.

I bought this to take my 5-year-old backpacking. It met my needs: a double-wide sleeping bag, warm but light enough to carry (because of course I'm the one carrying everything) and for the price, I figured even if it's terrible I'm not going to bankrupt myself. Worth trying out. We've used it a few times and I've generally been happy with it. I always considered the 30-degree rating a stretch, but you have to keep realistic expectations with a bag in this low price range. We really put it through the wringer last weekend when it got WAY colder than expected. The forecast predicted the forties but it actually got down into the teens. When the temperature started dropping, my kid made the choice to tough it out. We had a double-wide down quilt to supplement this bag, plus our down coats and warm base layers, and I did that old trick where you put boiling water in a nalgene and leave it down by your feet. The point is, we were actually very comfortable. I didn't even realize how far the temp had dropped until morning. I knew I had to come and leave a five-star review after that. I could have spent ten times as much money on a sleeping bag and not had to do all that extra stuff, but the truth is I would have brought most of that gear anyway. If you have realistic expectations, this bag will exceed your expectations.

Can't camp without it!

Ever since I purchased this double bag with the Stoic double cloud bed, I can't imagine going back to my old setup. Super roomy for one person, perfectly cozy with a partner. I use this as a 3-season bag. Couldn't recommend this combo enough!!!

Ignore the temp rating. Anyone who has slept out in the cold wouldn't for a minute trust this bag anywhere near its temperature rating. This is a summer and shoulder season bag at most and if I were taking it out anywhere below 50 deg. I'd have plans to throw a down comforter or something else over it and have some long underwear to add layers to your sleep system. If you are going to sleep at 20 deg. F you would be much better off buying a proper mummy bag that is rated at < 10 deg. F. The zippers to separate it into two bags suck too but on the upside, the materials are soft against the skin, I love jumping into this with my sweetie, and in something like a car camping environment this is a perfectly functional solution.

Steller Summer & Shoulder Season Bag
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
This is our go to for the spring, summer, and early fall camping season. Fits two and our dog and we stay nice and toasty. With this being an open bag (not mummy style), we definitely add a layer on colder nights. The Stoic double blanket does the trick ;)

We bought this to use in our rooftop tent, which is well insulated to begin with (warmer than our 4 season mountaineering tent). We slept in it one night, it got down to 40 degrees and we were freezing. We had planned to camp two more nights and chose to go home instead because we had such an awful night. I wouldn't recommend this for anything other than summer camping at low altitude with temps over 60 degrees.

Temperature rating off.
- Familiarity:
- I returned this product before using it
Used at 9,000 feet in Colorado for a five days temps got just below freezing. The temperature rating was definitely off we ended up using sleeping bag liners and a few blankets to stay warm enough. That being said still this bag still gets 4 stars, it is very large and the quality seems really good. It’s a 3 season bag and now that I know that I look forward to using it next spring. For reference I’m 6’3 and my significant other is ~5’9 and it was big enough that we fit in with plenty of room to spare.

I like the bag just fine...for the Summer or Spring etc. This is not a 20 degree bag though. You will be very cold and uncomfortable in the bag even with clothes on and a beanie if its anything near 45 degrees or less. Buyer beware.

I'll preface this by saying this product is the first double-sleeping bag that I've used. Unlike normal sleeping bags where there is a wrapping mummy effect around your body, sleeping in a double sleeping bag can create space between you and your partner where cold air can get through. So take what I say with a grain of salt. Now, I've used this bag several times in temperatures ranging from 45 to 65 degrees at night. This bag is adequate for 65 degrees and quite comfortable. For every 10 degrees below 65, I've needed to add an extra blanket. So two blankets at 45 degrees. Maybe I don't understand the degree rating system, but the 20 degree rating is a bit baffling. Overall, the bag feels a bit thin. Still, it's very comfortable when supplemented with blankets. In hindsight, I wish I got a warmer bag, though this realization didn't come till 3 days after the return policy expired.

We just got this and have used it on one camping trip so far. We got ours for car camping since it's way too big and heavy for backpacking. Its a really cozy bag and we slept very comfortably for the most part. We spent two nights in temperatures in the mid 40's. The first night I slept in only boxers and a t-shirt with no socks, my feet got pretty cold when I would have them extended to the end of the bag, but that isn't so much a knock on the warmth of the bag as it was me just not using my common sense to wear socks. Curling up a bit so my feet weren't hanging off the end of the mattress. I'll add, we were using a cheap inflatable 8" thick mattress that probably has a 0 R rating and the first night we had the end where our heads were right up against the tent wall, so I had to scoot down on the mattress and laying out straight left my feet dangling off the edge. Again, more dumb camping than the bag not performing. Second night, I wore socks and we adjusted the mattress and I didn't get cold once. I added a little heavier fleece top with a hood instead of the t-shirt to keep my head warm, and I was really toasty. We'll really get to see how durable and cozy it is as a car camping bag as we have several trips planned this winter in the Pacific NW. We picked up a Stoic dual mattress to pair with it after realizing how poorly our inflatable air mattress was. I think that will make a great car camping combo.

This was exactly what we were needing in our lives! I would suggest that if you are camping in 20-30 degree weather, make sure to bring an extra blanket to stuff inside with you or on top! We used the Stoic quilts that worked soooo great!

How is the comfort in cold temps? I know this is subjective but is 20 F the comfort or extreme temperature rating?

2nd the question about the dimensions as its laid out flat.
September 18, 2020
What are the dimensions of the bag (laying out flat)? I see the shoulder circumference (166in) which seems much wider than most double bags. Thanks!
